August 2008 Newsletter

Dear HPN prayer-ers,

It's August and it's beautiful in L.A. Did you know that Los Angeles is "The City of The Angels" and angels are messengers? And we send messages out of this city to the whole world every moment of every day. There are no coincidences in God's economy. So, let's pray this month that some day all of the messages will glorify Him, because the hearts of the people creating the messages have all accepted Him and His loving message. Let's pray that present messages that do not glorify God will be redeemed and that until they are, people will be protected from them.

PRAISES:

-HPN is thanking the Lord for our matching grant that will help us to spread the word globally for Christians to pray for the people, the projects and the issues in Hollywood. We also thank Him for those of you who are helping us to meet this goal. We can't tell you how much we appreciate your donations and your prayers, for we believe that God is doing a miraculous work in our industry and it's because of your prayers! UPDATES:

-Continue to pray for Heath Ledger's family as "Dark Knight" breaks box office records. There is much talk in town about Heath's untimely death, why it happened, etc. that it reminds us to keep asking the Lord to give his peers, friends and family members His truth and peace. "Dark Knight" surpassed $442 million at the box office this week.

REQUESTS:

-Pray for Zachary Levi as he begins a new season of the hit TV series "Chuck." Zach is a great comedian and a man of God who impacts millions of people around the world, and those on the set of "Chuck."

-Pray for the families of Bernie Mac (at 50) and Isaac Hayes (at 65), two great performers in our generation who both passed away this month. May their family members and friends seek and find Jesus as they mourn the loss of their loved ones. We don't know Bernie or Isaac's beliefs but we know that the Lord can turn this time into good for those involved and that He is the God of salvation. For more information on their stories, you can click on: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/category/story.cfm?c_id=72&objectid=10526570 and http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1831414,00.html?imw=Y

-Pray for the friends, peers and family members of the industry's known power broker, Bernie Brillstein, who also passed away this month at 77 years old. Bernie was a talent agent, manager, producer, and studio head for 50 years, starting in the mail room of William Morris Agency and ending up discovering comic talent, producing TV and publishing his Hollywood memoirs, "Where Did I Go Right? You're No One in Hollywood Unless Someone Wants You Dead." He was one of the culturally Jewish decision-makers in Hollywood who held tremendous power.

-Pray for the writers, directors, producers, actors and viewing audience as the new TV season begins in September. Some shows have been cancelled, leaving many people out of work, as others are starting up and propelling people into fame and wealth. May the people involved take responsibility for their work, handle their lives and relationships with integrity and find God's truth and love along the way.

-Pray for the athletes and media professionals involved in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. What a great opportunity to pray for China, its people and how the press handles these events. Also pray that the profiles of the athletes will be told with integrity. The viewership of this year's Olympics is breaking TV records. If you want to pray more specifically, click on this China Prayer List on our website: http://hollywoodprayernetwork.org/content/pray-china-during-the-olympics

-Pray that HPN can find more Intercessors around the world who are willing to commit to pray for one Christian in Hollywood who is an entertainment professional and can be their "Media Missionary." Through our "I to I Prayer Partnership" program, we have almost 1,000 Intercessors matched with Industry Professionals. We currently have over 35 Industry professionals waiting for an HPN Intercessor and we've RUN OUT! Would you consider being a prayer partner with a Christian in Hollywood? If so, please email Gloria Vives at gloria@hpnemail.org. Thanks so much for helping us to reach our goal of having every Christian in Hollywood (over 5,000) prayed for by a Christian on the outside.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:
A REMINDER TO EVERY INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL: "In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic." John Edwards

VERSE OF THE MONTH:
"The Law has shown me that something in me keeps me from doing what I know is right. With my whole heart I agree with the Law of God. But in every part of me I discover something fighting against my mind, and it makes me a prisoner of sin that controls everything I do. What a miserable person I am. Who will rescue me from this body that is doomed to die? Thank God! Jesus Christ will rescue me." Romans 7:21-25
