  • "Do not pray for easy lives; pray to be stronger people.  Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers; pray for power equal to your tasks."

Edward Zwick

Edward M. Zwick is an American filmmaker and film producer noted for his sprawling war films. He has been described as a "throwback to an earlier era, an extremely cerebral director whose movies consistently feature fully rounded characters, difficult moral issues, and plots that thrive on the ambiguity of authority." Ed was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Ruth Ellen and Allen Zwick. He received an A.B from Harvard in 1974. He attended the AFI Conservatory and graduated with an M.F.A. degree in 1975. His movies include Glory (1989), Legends of the Fall (1994), The Siege (1998), The Last Samurai (2003), Blood Diamond (2006), and Defiance (2008). Along with Marshall Herskovitz, Zwick runs a film production company called The Bedford Falls Company (inspired by the name of the town featured in Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life). This company has produced such notable films such as Traffic and Shakespeare in Love and the TV shows Thirtysomething, Relativity, Once and Again, and My So-Called Life. He was one of the recipients of the Academy Award for Best Picture for Shakespeare in Love; he was also nominated in the same category for Traffic. His most recent movie, Love & Other Drugs, sounds to be a severe departure from his norm -- and not for the better.  I found one short snippet of an interview with LA Times reporter Amy Kaufmann: Ed Zwick at the Love & Other Drugs premiere   When I found the above Youtube clip I was looking for a specific interview that he had at a pre-screening of this new movie of his in Dallas.  Unfortunately I couldn't find it.  However, I did read an opinion of one person -- a Christian -- who has spoken to him:   "He's so very very lost. Thought there is absolutely nothing immoral about nudity or sex--it's natural and what men and women do when they're trying to figure out what they want--sleep around with 12-14 and hope that it works into love with the right one."   This bio is short and sweet, but it introduces us to another lost soul for whom Jesus died on the cross.  Please pray that our God will reach into Ed Zwick's life this week and show him his desperate need for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ!   --Heidi
