January 2010 Newsletter

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO HPN PRAYER-ERS!
We are so glad to be back after a joyful Christmas season. Our whole staff went in different directions to see family and we came back full of thanks for all we have, and excitement for what God has in store for this New Year. Because I saw lots of movies over the holidays, I have a new passion to start the New Year in prayer for the cultural influencers of the world and the entertainment they create! And January is Awards month, so let's pray!

PRAISES:
We had an encouraging end of the year as so many of you sacrificed some of your finances to support HPN. It lifted our spirits and gave us hope and gratefulness in starting the New Year. Thank you! We praise God for all of you!

We praise God for our new HPN TEENS Prayer Calendar. Now, our fabulous volunteer, Terri Renfro, prepares two monthly calendars for us: Our KIDS HPN PRAYER CALENDAR and now our TEENS PRAYER CALENDAR. Please click on this link and pass on the page to all your kids, friends and youth pastors so that teens and young children can all be praying for the people they're watching. http://www.hollywoodprayernetwork.org/kids-prayer-calendar
UPDATE:
Last month we asked for more intercessors to pray for industry professionals who were waiting for an "I to I Prayer Partner" and we thank you for your response. Now this month we need more female industry professionals who want prayer. We have some wonderful intercessors ready to be matched. And men, keep coming. We always need more of you! Just email Gloria@hpnemail.org
Let's keep praying for Tiger and Elin Woods as they continue to dominate the nation's news. Even Brit Hume, an anchor on Fox News, spoke out on air about his hope that Tiger can turn to Christianity. Let's keep praying for Tiger!
REQUESTS:
As we start the year, let's pray for the battle with FEAR that so many industry professionals struggle with every day. Fear of losing their job, not being noticed, not being talented enough, not being able to pay their bills.... It's a bondage that is strangling so many people. We want industry pros to experience freedom from that this year.

Let's pray for Johnny Depp, who just won "Favorite Movie Actor of the Decade" at the LA 2010 People's Choice Awards (Jan. 7th) for his role as John Dillinger in Public Enemies. Depp responded with, "I'm deeply humbled by this great honor, which comes from you, the people, which means everything to me..." Johnny is the mad hatter in the Tim Burton film, "
Alice In Wonderland ," opening March 5th, and we ask that you pray for him as he deals with this incredible fame, wealth and notoriety. It's a tough head-trip to handle.
Roy Disney, Walt Disney's nephew, passed away Dec. 17th. Roy was credited completely with the renaissance of Disney animation, starting with "
The Little Mermaid ." Please pray for Roy's family, friends and the leadership at the studio. May they find their peace in the Lord. FYI: If you've ever passed the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, Roy's office used to be in the blue wizard's hat sitting on top of the animation building.
The 67th annual Golden Globe Awards is coming up this Sunday, Jan. 17th, telecast from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. This huge awards ceremony always comes before the Academy Awards (this year they're on March 7th) and announces the winners of all of the best films, TV shows, actors, directors, etc., as voted by the Hollywood Foreign Press. Please pray for the people who will be presenting, winning, losing and wishing they were involved. It's one of the evenings in Hollywood that is too important to too many people and our prayers can make a difference. For more info go to: http://www.goldenglobes.org/
Pray for the gathering of filmmakers at the 26th annual Sundance Film Festival, Jan. 22 - 30th in Park City Utah. It's the #1 attended film festival in America and it attracts international celebrities, filmmakers and film buffs. This year over 150 Christian undergraduate and graduate college film students from Biola, Fuller, Pepperdine and Taylor University will be there to watch and discuss films, engage with the filmmakers, and be salt and light at the Festival. Would you pray for the effectiveness, love and witness these students and faculty will have at one of the years' largest gathering of independent filmmakers. http://festival.sundance.org/2010/
The 52nd annual Grammy Awards show will be on January, 31st. The biggest event in the music business will be televised live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on CBS. We ask that you pray for all the people involved, as the musicians anticipate this important evening. To pray for the hearts and lives of this year's nominees, go to: http://www.grammy.com/nominees
Please pray for all of the potential nominees for the 2010 Academy Awards. The nominees will be announced on Tuesday, February 2nd, an incredibly emotional day for thousands of people in our entertainment community on both sides of the camera. We ask that you will pray that regardless of whether these people are nominated for their work in 2009 or not, that they will only find complete fulfillment in Jesus. You can pray more specifically after 2/2 by checking the list at: http://www.oscar.com/nominees/?pn=nominees
Pray for the annual 168 Film Festival as they rev up for another year of short films, written from a Bible verse and produced in 168 hours! Paul and John are leading the charge, so let's pray for them and the 80 teams who have signed up. Tues., Feb. 2nd is the night when the 80 producers choose their Bible verse, so let's ask the Lord to lead and guide these filmmakers and that they will glorify Him in the process. Some people on every film team are Christians, but many people aren't, so it's an important time for the believers to love their fellow filmmakers in the midst of the pressure and chaos of making their films. Check them out at http://www.168project.com
HPN's challenge to all of you this month, is to pray for one person you know or have heard of in Hollywood who is not yet a Christian. Would you ask the Lord to touch their hearts with His unconditional love, peace, joy and salvation? Pray every day for that person before you receive your next HPN email. You will make an eternal difference in that person's life with your 30 days of prayer!
REQUEST FROM HPN MEMBER:
From Miami Chapter Director:
"Please pray for Matt, a Christian aspiring actor whose mom is one of our prayer warriors. Also, at our Christmas event, we encouraged a harpist and violinist to continue pursuing their artistic talent. The harpist shared his testimony and sold approx. 10 CDs on the spot. They were very touched for the support they received and for our HPN mission! This year our activities are getting filled with arts and rising Christian talents, thanks to the Lord's guidance in joining HPN. Many blessings to all of you, and may the Lord continue giving all joy, strength, and endurance to continue with your beautiful mission." Gladys Colon
UPCOMING EVENTS:
Brand new classes, Bible studies and nights of prayer are starting up in Hollywood this month. It's exciting to see Christians step up to the plate to lead groups and commit to growing spiritually. Here are some groups to pray for: A bi-weekly Wed. night Bible study on Prayer, starting Wed. Feb. 3rd; "How To Talk About Jesus Without Freaking Out" 6 week class, starting Wed., Feb. 3rd; HPN's bi-weekly Thurs. night prayer hour, and weekly prayer for Hollywood every Wed. from noon-2pm at Hollywood Pres. For more information on each of these and other events, check out the Hollywood Connect website at: http://www.hollywoodconnect.com/current-events
That's it for this month. May the Lord bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon each of you and Hollywood! Thank you all for praying.
Grace & Peace,
Karen, Caren and Gloria
