March 2010 Newsletter
Dear HPN Prayer Team,
It’s March and we’re ready to Praise God, thank Him and ask Him some requests from Hollywood for this beautiful Spring month. However, it’s been a month of tragedy for many Hollywood professionals and the number of suicides is indicative of our spiritually starving community. Without Jesus there is no hope. Let’s pray:

PRAISES:
• Our prayer walk around the KODAK Theatre on Thurs. March 4th was fabulous! On the Thurs. before the Academy Awards 22 people walked around the Kodak Theatre and Hollywood & Highland, lifting up the event to the Lord, asking Him to do a miracle that night. We got to pray with security guards, passers by, and for everyone who walked down the red carpet. We know the Lord blessed that time. Thank you Christina, for making that happen!
• We are so thankful for our 8 Hour Prayer Day on Feb. 25th in Hollywood. Thank you so much for praying with us and for

us. Over 100 people came, and almost every person got prayed for personally by our wonderful PIHOP pray-ers. We know the day made an eternal difference and we’re committed to do one per quarter!
• We praise God for the Pasadena International House of Prayer - a group of prayer warriors, led by Cheryl, who have a heart for the entertainment professionals. And they volunteer hours and hours to pray for the people in our community. We are not the same because of them and their faithful prayers. Thank you PIHOP!
UPDATES:
• There were many Academy Awards parties on awards night and Christians across the city were reaching out to their non-believing friends, some even at the event itself. It was a reminder that God is moving in Hollywood and bringing solid Christians, with a heart for those who don’t yet know God, to be here and be a part of this community as Ambassadors of Christ. We’re seeing a difference here.
• We had almost 100 HPN prayer warriors praying for the 168 Hour Film teams as they completed their short films this past month. Thank you SO MUCH for your prayers. The winners of the Festival and all of the screenings will be held on March 26th and 27th. Keep praying that the team members had a spiritually significant impact on everyone involved. • Our dear friend and industry member, Carl Swenson, passed away last month after a noble battle with cancer. We are glad that Carl is with Jesus and with a healthy body again, and we thank all of you who prayed for him through the process. It was peaceful, and God was present at every moment. Thank you Brad, Beth and Carin for sharing Carl with our community. He touched so many lives.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
• Pray for the people gathering in Las Vegas on April 10th for the annual NABSHOW, where producers, post-production and new media experts gather to discuss the future of technology in filmmaking. Often in our industry, so much emphasis is put on technological advancements that we often forget about one another’s hearts, needs and personal relationships. For more info on NABSHOW go to www.nabshow.com/talking
• Pray for Marie Osmond and her family, after her 18-year-old son Michael Blosil committed suicide two weeks ago. Michael jumped to his death from a downtown L.A. apartment building, after struggling from a lifelong battle with depression. Michael is one of Osmond's five adopted children. She also has three other children from two marriages. She divorced Brian Blosil in 2007 after two decades of marriage. She and her first husband Stephen Craig divorced in 1985. Let’s pray for the Lord to give Marie and the family Divine strength and to reveal Himself to all of them as He comforts them.
• Pray for Andrew Koenig, best known for his part on the show Growing Pains, who was found dead two weeks ago, due to suicide. The son of Judy and Walter Koenig, who played the part of Chekov on the original Star Trek, had been struggling with depression prior to his disappearance. He lost hope and couldn’t cope. Pray that God can touch his family members with His hope during this grieving time.
• Please pray for the family of actor Corey Haim (age 38), and especially his mother Judy, after losing Corey last week in
L.A., of a drug overdose. Best known for his role in “Lost Boys,” Corey had been battling drug and alcohol addiction, a dramatic weight gain, a slew of medical issues and was in and out of rehab numerous times in past years. In 1997, the actor filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with medical bill debt totaling more than $200,000. In a 2007 interview on "Larry King Live" Corey said he would be a "chronic relapser for the rest of my life."
• We have to pray for all of the Hollywood professionals, on both sides of the camera, who are currently in the same kind of life struggles with depression and hopelessness that Michael, Andrew and Corey were plagued with. They are spiritually starving and their lives of fame and money become their greatest enemy as they get sucked in by the lifestyle and pressures of stardom. It’s a horrible place to be. So let’s pray that they get free from that emptiness that only Jesus can fill.
• Let’s pray for the reconciliation of Jon Voight and his daughter, Angelina Jolie, that they’ve been working on for months. They have been famously estranged since 2001, but Brad Pitt has been encouraging her to reconcile with her father. And let’s pray for God to reveal Himself to Jon, Angelina and Brad – They would experience such peace and joy with Jesus Christ in their lives.
• Pray for the salvation of Roger Ebert, the well-known film critic, who is dying of cancer. "I know it is coming, and I do not fear it, because I believe there is nothing on the other side of death to fear. I hope to be spared as much pain as possible on the approach path. I was perfectly content before I was born, and I think of death as the same state." We ask the Lord to touch Roger and his wife with His love.
• Pray for the Graves family, who lost Peter Graves this week at age 83. Just five months ago Peter received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for his acting career. He was best known for his role in the TV show “Mission Impossible.” Pray that the Lord will bring his family members to you as they mourn their loss.
• Pray for the salvation of Cameron Douglas, 31 year old son of Michael Douglas, who was arrested at New York's Hotel Gansevoort with a load of crystal meth, which he was dealing. Cameron is staying in jail until he's sentenced in April because the federal judge denied him bail, saying he couldn't be trusted to stay off dope on house arrest. Let’s pray that the Douglas family will seek Christ at this devastating time, and that Cameron will be freed from his addiction and find new life in Jesus.
REQUESTS FROM OUR LOCAL CHAPTER DIRECTORS:
• “Nicholas Cage's movie Drive Angry will be shooting in Shreveport, LA through the month of April followed by a new Fox TV Studios television series and several other Feature Film projects. Believers who work in films have begun networking and we are seeing some breakthroughs in the Film Industry here, especially among the young people. Please keep our area in your prayers.” LCD Suzanne Manthei
• Pray for the film industry professionals in Bollywood, India. It’s a difficult time for them and our LCD, Davita asks that we continue to lift them up and ask that God reveals Himself to them.

In Him,
Karen, Caren and Gloria Vives
